MEET THE BARK HAVEN TEAM

 Kayla began her grooming journey over 10 years ago after graduating from grooming academy with PetSmart—and she hasn’t put the shears down since! With experience spanning multiple salons, running her own house-call grooming business, and eventually opening Bark Haven in 2023, Kayla brings both passion and expertise to every appointment.

She’s constantly honing her craft through industry webinars, seminars, and virtual platforms like Groom Haus, staying up to date on both modern styles and timeless techniques. One of her favorite parts of the job? Partnering with pet parents to educate them on coat care, so every pup can look and feel their best between visits.

When she’s not busy pampering pups, Kayla enjoys spending time with her husband, Nate, their two daughters, Charly and Fynly & their Cocker Spaniel.

 Nate Eckley is the proud co-owner of Bark Haven, where he works alongside his wife, Kayla. In addition to his role here, Nate also runs High Caliber Computer Systems—a company that provides cutting-edge IT solutions and specializes in automation and security systems for homes and businesses.

At home, Nate is a hands-on dad to twin daughters, Charly and Fynly. Whether he’s helping with math homework, reading stories, or enjoying time on the family farm, he cherishes every moment with his girls. When life slows down a bit, he and Kayla love sneaking in a quiet date night.

Since 2010, Nate has been Kayla’s biggest cheerleader, encouraging her passion for grooming and supporting her dream of owning a business. His behind-the-scenes dedication has been instrumental in helping Bark Haven grow into the vibrant, welcoming place it is today.

 Penny joins us from Iowa Western after completing her Professional Dog Grooming certificate & 4 months of hands-on training. At the end of April 2025 she took her AKC Professional Groomer Certificate exam and earned her industry credential.

The program focused on 

safe animal handling, bathing and drying, scissor techniques, grooming skills, breed groups and terminology, and sanitation practices.

 Penny will start her journey at Bark Haven as a grooming apprentice, working alongside Kayla's mentorship to refine her skills and build upon the foundations she learned in school. 

  Nichole brings over a decade of grooming experience to the Bark Haven team, along with a huge heart for dogs and a warm, friendly presence our clients (and pups!) will love.

Nichole has a special soft spot for golden retrievers—especially her own two, Oliver and Leia—so it’s no surprise they’re her favorite breed to groom. (Although doodles come in at a very close second!)

Fun fact: Nichole and our very own Kayla go way back—they first worked together at PetSmart when Kayla was fresh out of grooming academy. 

We’re calling this a full-circle moment, and we’re thrilled to have them reunited under the Bark Haven roof.

 Laura has been a senior groomer at Petsmart since 2021, and she’s been making tails wag ever since! Whether it’s a tidy trim or a bubbly bath for a muddy pup, Laura does it all with style and a whole lot of heart. Her furry clients adore her—and their humans do too!

Outside of the salon, Laura enjoys soaking up family time with her husband, Justoni, their sweet son, Peyton, and their beloved German Shepherd.

Balancing motherhood and grooming magic, Laura somehow does it all—and always with a smile. We’re so lucky to have her as part of the Bark Haven family!

 Lexi has been part of the Bark Haven family since August 2024, bringing her expertise and gentle touch to our original location every Friday. She’s mastered the art of bathing and drying, with a special knack for working with all different coat types—and even the wiggliest pups.

Known for her calm, patient energy, Lexi helps make every dog’s grooming experience a positive one. She’s a true behind-the-scenes hero, and we’re so lucky to have her on the team!

Outside of the salon, Lexi stays busy with her three kids—Nora, Parker, and Aliyah—and her husband, Joe.

  Shelbie has been a familiar (and much-loved!) face at Bark Haven since 2024, bringing her calm energy and confident dog-handling skills to our salon every Saturday. With years of hands-on experience and a natural connection with dogs of all breeds and temperaments, she helps keep our grooming days running smoothly—and makes sure every pup feels safe and cared for.

As a proud dog mom to a pack of her own, Shelbie truly understands what it takes to earn a dog’s trust. Whether she’s assisting with grooming or giving nervous pups a little extra love, she’s a vital part of the Bark Haven team.

When she’s not at the salon, Shelbie loves spending time with her husband, Jon, and their six amazing kids! Her home is full of love, laughter, and lots of wagging tails!
